Listing optimization
The ideal photo order for a vacation rental listing
Why the first five images determine the click—and how to turn existing photos into a clear visual story.
Your first image sells a feeling, not a room
Guests compare several properties in seconds. Your cover image should show the strongest emotional reason to open the listing: the view, terrace, distinctive interior or unusual architecture.
Avoid collages, text overlays and extreme wide angles. A bright, calm frame with one clear focus looks more premium and remains legible on small screens.
The first five images need a narrative
After the cover, create orientation. A reliable sequence is the strongest outdoor or living area, main bedroom, signature amenity, a second living space, and the setting or view.
Do not place three near-identical angles next to each other. Every photo should answer a new question and add another reason to book.
Descriptive filenames and alt text do two jobs
On your own website, precise alt text improves accessibility and search visibility. Describe what matters, such as “sunny terrace overlooking Lake Garda,” rather than stacking keywords.
Compress images as WebP or AVIF and serve responsive sizes. The page stays fast without sacrificing visual quality.
